Steven,

The crux of our misunderstanding is the compatibility of atheism and spirituality. Maybe it's a matter of definition, so for the sake of an "apples to apples" discussion, I'll refer to Webster's on-line definitions of the following:

atheism: a disbelief in the existence of deity b : the doctrine that there is no deity

diety: 1 a : the rank or essential nature of a god.

god : the supreme or ultimate reality: as a : the Being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe b Christian Science : the incorporeal divine Principle ruling over all as eternal Spirit : infinite Mind

spiritual:1 : of, relating to, consisting of, or affecting the spirit

spirit:1 : an animating or vital principle held to give life to physical organisms 2 : a supernatural being or essence:

Is there any linkage between "god" and "spirit"? For me there is.

Can you see how the compatibility of atheism and spirituality confuses me, and motivates me to seek explanations?

Rick
