HP Alliance With Wind River to Provide "Best-of-Class" Development Environment

Business Wire ~ October 30, 1998 ~ 7:17 am EST
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1998-- Hewlett-Packard Company today announced it has entered into a strategic alliance with Wind River Systems by joining Wind River's WindLink partner program as a Premier member. HP will support Wind River's Tornado development environment with HP 16600A/16700A series logic analyzers.

"By connecting HP logic-analysis systems to the Tornado tool framework, hardware designers and software developers now have a best-of-class development and debug environment," said Patrick J. Byrne, general manager of HP's Colorado Springs Division. "Many of our customers are VxWorks users, so it makes perfect sense for us to combine our industry-leading logic analyzers with Wind River's premier, real-time operating system to help designers bring products to market faster."

Simultaneous Multitool Access

The new alliance means that all designers on a project team will have simultaneous access to HP embedded debug tools within the Wind River Tornado environment, as well as to development tools from other leading vendors. Each team member will have the tools needed to complete their portion of the project on time, reducing project costs and delivering high-quality products to the marketplace.

"We are extremely pleased that HP is supporting its robust logic analyzers with the award-winning Tornado development environment," said Curt Schacker, vice president of marketing at Wind River Systems. "With innovative partners such as HP, we can enable our customers to develop and build comprehensive embedded technology solutions from end to end."

The first HP products slated to offer direct connections to Wind River's Tornado environment will be HP's emulation probes and modules for the PowerPC and Motorola MPC families of microprocessors.

Tornado is the only complete software cross-development environment for embedded systems. It is available for UNIX(R) system, Windows(R) 95 and Windows NT(R) host platforms and more than 20 target processor families.

Tornado is seamlessly integrated into a target platform to provide the industry's most powerful development tools within VxWorks -- a feature-rich, high-performance and scalable real-time operating system. Completely open in its design and easy to customize, Tornado facilitates the use of numerous third- party and customer-developed tools to enhance its capabilities and meet unique requirements.

Wind River Systems has more than 200 software and hardware partners. Its Tornado environment is used by thousands of developers worldwide.
