But since this is also true of layer 3 routing protocols its a given.> Wrong again, who did you talk to, in RTP lab ? consult PNNI WG chair? simply put "Routing Protocols" do not move data (and not narrowly interpreting the spec), they exchange routing information. Moving data is done by the underlying forwarding mechanism, and that mechanism depends on the box. Got it now.
