Harrah's Chairman Phil Satre Named Casino Journal's Gaming Executive of the Year
PR Newswire - October 30, 1998 11:08

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Casino Journal Publishing Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CJPG) announced this week that it has awarded Casino Journal Magazine's Gaming Executive of the Year honor to Philip Satre, Chairman of Harrah's Entertainment (NYSE: HET). Satre will be featured in a cover story in the December 1998 edition of Casino Journal.

CJPG Chairman Glenn Fine calls Satre "one of the most progressive executives in the gaming industry today."

"Phil Satre has transformed Harrah's Entertainment since he was appointed chairman in 1997," says Fine. "His business philosophies of branding, service, and selection have made Harrah's one of the foremost leaders of the industry, satisfying the demands of the shareholders, employees and customers alike."

Fine says Satre was recognized as Gaming Executive of the Year because of the stellar performance of Harrah's Entertainment during an especially trying time for the gaming industry. And with the recent purchases of Showboat Inc. and Rio Hotel & Casino, Inc., Harrah's has become the undisputed leader in the consolidation phase of the development of the gaming industry. Showboat and Rio have provided Harrah's with synergistic properties that have expanded the membership in Harrah's proprietary "Total Gold Card" to more than 8 million members.

Philip G. Satre was named chairman of Harrah's Entertainment in January 1997. He had been serving as president and chief executive officer since just after the company was spun off from the Promus Companies. Harrah's Entertainment is today the nation's largest pure gaming company.

Prior to the spin-off, Satre was president and CEO of the Promus Companies, consisting of both the gaming and hotel divisions of the company.

Satre joined the company in 1980 as vice president and general counsel of Harrah's. In 1983, he was promoted to senior vice president, operations administration, and in February 1984, was named president of Harrah's East (Atlantic City). He was named president and CEO of Harrah's in September 1984. In December 1987, he became a Promus senior vice president and president of the company's gaming group. In 1991, he was promoted to president and chief operating officer.
