dpl: I just gave a laptop away also. I first deleted all the sensitive files. Then I copied multiple times some large non-sensitive files (actaully whole folders) until the hard disk was full. Then I erased those copies. Apparently, files are recoverable until something else actually uses the hard disk space they were in. When I then tried to undelete, Norton unerase said not recoverable.
