RE: Shorting Dell

This is a possible approach for you:

1. Get a cheap broker
2. Buy a big unmargined Dell position when you think Dell is going up.
3. When you think Dell is going to drop, sell part of your Dell short (against the box). You never have a problem getting this short off.
4. If Dell goes down, buy and cover, making a profit.
5. If Dell goes up, close out your short at a loss on the short, but fully offset (except for commissions) by the rise of your stock.
6. This is a conservative short-term bearish strategy within a bullish long-term strategy. It used to have real tax advantages, but I believe it has been messed up by recent changes. Check with your accountant or tax adviser.

Caution, this is not investment or tax advice!
