The proprietarity doesn't reside at the headend. That's the MSO's equipment. The national private parallel network, the efficient management of the ATM backbone, the RDC control hardware and software, and the origination of content are where ATHM is unique. ATHM does make recommendations about whose proxy caching servers to install and provides other technical support so that the headend is efficient.

Actually neither party is strictly at fault. Washington always reflects the will of the people. The lack of education among the populace is at blame. The problem is that the universities don't teach capitalism. They teach the war on wealth. Econ professors do not believe that free markets are fair. They believe you have to make them fair by constraint. The only thing constrained is the growth of wealth which is the secret unspoken agenda of every envious university professor. The professors never believe that they are anti-free market , but when they assert a free market solution, it's always under the restriction of fair market provisions. Seek a fair market and that's what you won't get. Seek a free market and you can't make it any fairer. You'll never convince the intellect of that profound truth. Intellect always cooks up a theoretical way why free markets can't work and looks everywhere to prove it. The true motivation behind the intent is childish emotion. So it will take the maturity of the race to escape the cycle of economic stupidity. Say, 1,000,000 years.
