You mean, as a student or to visit etc?

As a student, mid 70s. I went to one year public high school in Ca. and off and on public elementary. Nobody sent their kids to private schools in Ca when I was a kid.

More recently I know about the schools because I know people that have kids, and also Im considering buying a house. Buying a house in Ca you learn all about the schools. There are 2 or 3 decent disticts, and if you dont live in those 3 then you pretty much have to send kids to private schools. Real estate agents will tell you this right off. If you look at those 3 districts theres a lot of new wealth there. Thats why I think bad v good schools are a money issue. Say, Cupertino is good schools, next door Sunnyvale - bad. Cupertino = lots of new, expensive houses. That means, new money, high taxes. Sunnyvale = houses also expensive, but older. That means, many residents pay little taxes due to grandfather taxation rules. As far as moral degradation, I dont think Cupertino is any moral paragon or virtue vs. next door Sunnyvale. The bad districts just dont have enough money, dispite the wealthy residents.
