What's so special about IBM's $599 Cyrix based computer? Last week there were ads here for PCs based on Intel Celeron or AMD K6-2 for about a hundred dollars more. After Intel's price cuts this past Monday, I'm sure those boxmakers that were at $699 will now find a way to get to $599. Also, BTW, with respect to Intel, the low cost PCs are just one out of four of their market targets in their segmented scheme. IBM is a good customer of Intel in at least the other three, maybe all four.

By the way, Cyrix still has a reputation, deserved or not, for chips that overheat and are not as reliable as Intel's. You get what you pay for. IBM lowballing it for the Christmas season with the shakiest reputation MPU name may say something about their own upcoming financial prospects.
