great
solution for cooling....just leave the one side cover off. Now I'm
probably going to get several messages telling me why this is a bad
idea, safety concerns, someone touching and shorting out a chip etc.
But I have done this for years with much success. To me it is not a
big deal, right now I can think of 3 or 4 boxes I use on a daily basis,
all without side covers. It also provides nice access when you change
things out and test stuff as much as I do on a daily basis. Granted the
boxes are always in an environment where I can control access, so I
am not worried about the above issues.

Well, I'm not much concerned about safety concerns either. Especially
on your machines <GG>. But the truth is, you MAY cool better with
the sides on. You will almost certainly cool better if your
cases are in any restricted area. In my house, my wife guarantees
ALL my PCs are restricted somehow <G>.

To go you one better, I don't give a rat's butt if the FCC regs
aren't enforced with the case off either. And if anybody gets
electrocuted, they should have kept their dern fingers to
themselves. It it's me, I promise not to complain afterwards.

But with the case open the noise is higher
and the space is messier; with it on the cooling is better
IF the case cooling is designed well in the first place.
And it's a lot more tranquil.
