Investors also cheered fresh steps by the Group of Seven (G7) nations to stop global economic problems from getting worse. The Dow closed up 97.07 points at 8592.10. On the New York Stock Exchange, advancers trounced decliners by nearly three-to-one, but volume was not heavy with 778 million shares changing hands. It was the Dow's best close since August 25, and was above its 200-day moving average at 8,500, a key technical milestone. The index ended the week up 139.81 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq settled up 14.34 points at 1771.53. The broad market S&P500 stock index closed up 12.74 points at 1098.67, slightly outpacing the Dow's advance.
