Hi Pat, My TI Archives have a couple DSP connected stories.
On 6/21/96 Vice Chairman Pat Weber said digital signal processing might grow to a $10 billion business by the year 2000. He also says the downsizing of TI's defense business should be ending soon, adding that the company is "quite happy" with the defense sector performance.
On 8/15/96 A analyst by the name of Dobberpuhl is especially hot on the company's digital signal processors, chips whose ability to process voice or video lends them for use in a wide spectrum of consumer products, and (a favorite of mine) its new digital micromirror device (DMD), a microchip that converts data into pictures using thousands of tiny mirrrors.
I also noted TI had some joint development pacts with Southwestern Bell ( Now Pacific Bell)
I've never owned TI but it is a fascinating stock. Until recently it has been flat and in the early 60's it took a big dive but in its developing days it was something beautiful. It ascended from 4 1/8 in 1953 to 205 in 1960. What a chart! If Intel or Microsoft can sustain their growth for a decade they MIGHT be compared. Oh well, their just partners-- for now. Best Regards Steve
P.S. Remember ol' Steve after Soros makes you rich!
