LT, et. al. (thread)
Fundamentally, the arguments presented by LT, lo these many months, strike me as being valid.... although at times he has been somewhat circumspect in his explanations.
From what I have been able to glean from posts here and on the fifteen or so threads I try to follow (being mostly a lurker, trying to learn and get a handle on what is transpiring), we appear to be a cusp, a crossroads. Anyone with any intelligence should be able to see that we have very serious fundamental problems with the global macro-economic situation. Pick any one of the interconnected areas; Asia (in general), Japan (in particular), Brazil and Latin America, hedge funds, international banks, etc. Each, and any, can cause great difficulty with the overal global economic picture... and they are all connected.
One can only hope that those at the top, the governmental and quasi-governmental agencies responsible for maintaining stability on the macro-economic scale, can stabilize and maintain the status quo. If they cannot, or otherwise fail, we are, all of us, in for very hard times to one degree or another.
On the one hand, I hope they succeed; on the other, I am 85% cash... with the rest in gold miner equities... for I, for one, cannot afford personally to lose my capital base. In this I be neither bull nor bear.... just extremely cautious.
