Hi Eric
I wasn't with Novell for the resolution of this, I'm afraid, so I can't comment directly. The upshot was that Novell customers got the best of both worlds, eg. they got NetWare with internet standards, IP, DHCP, DNS etc integrated to NDS, plus Netscape FastTack servers in the box. Compared to NT+IIS? No comparison - NW5 and Fastrack have a future away from a monopoly.
In terms of staff, costs etc. for the Netscape project, I'm afraid I can't answer you since I'm out of the picture, maybe Mr. Lemon could comment? I know that Netobjects Fusion is pretty cool though, I've been after a copy for some time. This can only be good, because there's not much of an alternative at the moment. FrontPage98 is crippleware for idiots, (such as Gary Ku), and nobody really uses it for proper web sites if they know what they're doing.
I believe there are still people from the joint venture knocking around NOVL, but I'm afraid I'm not privy to those email lists any more, I'm now just an interested investor |
