==================== JOHN CAVANAUGH post 1
Gary,

Whats really funny about his view is the lack of knowledge about how the
'underlying
switched fabric' does its job. Its now called PNNI and the ATM spec is over an
inch
thick and is specifically called 'PNNI Routing'.

YOUR POST 1 is totally wrong.
"Underlying switched fabric does its job. Its now called PNNI."

Talked over your posts with some of the guys in the lab and the best that we can come
up with is that you could be narrowly interpretting the spec and deciding that PNNI
routing chooses paths, but does not move data. But since this is also true of layer 3
routing protocols its a given. The other guys assumed you may not know this hence the
semantic confusion.

Sorry for assuming a Cisco thread contributor would know about routing :-)

YOUR Post 2 is even worse after consulting with RTP LAB.
It said "since this is true of layer 3 routing protocols its a given"
Layer 3 routing protocols exchange routing information, does not MOVE DATA.
Moving data is typiclaly done by underlying forwarding mechanism which depends on the box (using software, hardware or a combination of both)
Too bad, possible that the TASMAN LAB people are probably scratching their head thinking what these RTP LAB people are thinking.

What a sad thing about YOUR LAST SENTENCE, read and think about YOURSELF.

Jach,

I guess I am not surprised that I haven't seen you at UNH or MCNC at any of the
testing (PNNI Interoperability Tests). From the PNNI doc that you claim to have read:

YOUR POST 3 is the worst of the worst.
Remember, when one does not see another one at the University, it does not mean that the other one does not know anything. What a stupid suggestion? Not even sure you're a cisco employee.
