I got an email from a non member who referred to your problem. Here's what he said:

You might want to suggest to CatLady that her computer may be acting up from poor ventilation and a problem with dissipating heat. I put in a case fan in the back of mine and drilled holes in one of the front bay drives and put a thin cloth over the holes to circulate air through the case while keeping dust out. (I can't post)
