Chris,
Let me give you a history lesson. The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Christian denomination in this country, was formed during the Civil War that this country had to go through in the 1840"s. The reason that this convention was formed was that the Southern Baptist differed with their northern counterparts over the issue of slavery. So that they could KEEP their slaves, the SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION was form for this sole reason....slavery.
Chris, I would expect you to say that this isn't true. My response then, is why did the Southern Baptist Convention issue an apology for this part of their historical upbringing only two years ago. Call the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, Tn and they will admit that they have issued such an apology. Also, Dan, they will tell you that they no longer practice this belief, to which I would respond, why can you go to nearly every community in the deep south and you will find Christian academies started to get their children out of the public schools. Why Dan did these Christian academies start springing up in mass numbers in the 1960's and are still occuring today. Dan, the answer is integration. Blacks are good for slavery, but not good enough for association with white children of Christians in 1998. Sure we have come along way from 1840 but hatred is still there.
