Melissa, you are right. I've only been on this thread a short time.
I was getting the sense that people wanted gc run off the thread strictly because he's negative.

Yup, you were the only cheerleader on the sebl thread.

Regarding duffield, he had to leave integral systems to start psft so he could build a client server product with a clean slate.

My point is that there is too much for psft to do to keep focus on it's client base and develop new suites of applications as well as a next generation architecture. I don't think there are any enterprise software companies that have successfully migrated from one generation to another primarily because of the costs of maintaining the installed base.

Building a next generation product that ignores the past (a necessary step that Andy grove refers to as "eating your young") runs a massive risk of alienating your customer base. It's hard to do, and I can't think of a company that's made the transition well.
