Brian & all
seems I was right in my asessing the present & future connection between CPQ & AMD. This partnership (remember: K7 will use EV-6 bus protocol) is about to end up to the mutual benefit of both...

Message 6074399

AMD gets SMP-capability (finally) and will be able to compete at the high-end, CPQ (DEC-ALPHA !) will get a cheapo-channel for mass-market oriented core-logic design (VIA, SIS, UMC etc.). I read somewhere that VIAs upcoming core logic supports K7 but the same mainboard will support the ALPHA also. Good to hear they actually split the market. INTC will be brought to its knees, still fixing 450NX chipset problems on their GTL+ bus, finally enabling 8xSMP on overpriced XEONs (then $2500 for the 2MB CSRAM model) while AMD will be steaming ahead. I wonder what INTC can do to prevent this from happening - my guess is...

NOTHING !!!

why do You all have to do it alone when partnering with others can be so efficient ???

best regards - as always ..
