Dave,

I had a problem with the first par...

<<<<The first deployment of DSL technology will be ADSL, but HDSL and SDSL may be used as they reach price points equivalent to ADSL. For initial deployments, ADSL with minimum line rates of approximately 400 kbps downstream and 160 kbps will be used, although shorter loops should be able to support downstream rates of 3 Mbps or greater and upstream rates up to 768 Mbps.>>

It sounds more like they are talking about IDSL rather than ADSL because of the line rates. They are also saying that HDSL and SDSL is more expensive than ADSL which seems to be a rather contrarian view. On the wholesale move to HFC......it seems that the telcos can upgrade the infrastructure at a rate of anywhere from 4%-7% in a given year. (Currently, they upgrade existing lines at about 3% and add new lines at 4% (or mabye it was 4% and 3%)). At those rates it doesn't seem like DSL is going to be replaced anytime soon.

Who is CIR?

Best regards,
Jim
