>>Pretty soon you'll be tearing these guys apart just because it's
Saturday afternoon and no ball games are on (or your peed off at the major leagues like me).

I was a bit surprised to catch myself up to my elbows inside the P5-166 when I had a new system to put together. <g> I was right about flipping the PS fan being a ugly little job - I was wrong about which system it was on!

Flipping the fan on the new system was easy. Didn't have anything hooked to the power cables, so pulled it all the way out of the machine and worked it by itself on my desk. The fan is internal to the PowerMan 300w, but easily flipped at the effort of 4 screws.

The fan on the Gateway P5-166 was suspended underneath the no-name power-supply on those little rubber pylon things. A neat idea I thought, considering noise. Now I think that gap lets local-circuit air flows occur reducing flow out of the case. The fan also had one of the grates screwed into the outlet side. Well, guess what - the outlet side holes (originally with screws) are smaller than the inlet side (originally with rubber posts). I tore small pieces off 2 of the posts before I got the drill out and enlarged the outlet side mounting holes. I tried to locate replacement rubber posts - and got laughed at in BestBuy, RadioShack AND the local hardware store <g> (CompUSA is a bit of a drive). Finally, I just put the fan in with the remaining 3 serviceable rubber mounts and to heck with that grate! Did this all inside the case - good thing I paid the extra $35 for the full tower. Someday I'll start a task that gets smaller. <g> I did actually use duct tape inside the old case - I taped some vents on the powersupply box INSIDE the case, with the thought that that would increase flow OUT of the case.

I've actually caught myself watching golf. I hear Bill Cosby ridiculing the concept in the back of my mind, but I keep watching. Just another sign of age, I guess. Of course, watching Fred Couples hit the ball is usually more satisfying than me hitting the ball - if you know what I mean. gg
