Sun just released a set of Java based speech recognition APIs and in my view that is going to cause a whole set of brand new startup and entrepreneurial companies. I think we will have a similar situation we had back in 95 when entrepreneurial spirit started to take over Silicon valley causing a new era for Sun Microsystems and its internet computing model. The next era for Sun and next generation entrepreneurs will be in voice and speech recognition (at least
this is something I am very much excited about and see as the evolution in internet computing).

Hi Addi- How's that baby doing? Sleeping through the overseas markets yet? :)

I'm dumping my trick-or-treat bag out here...

Here's a link to the Java speech API page. Indeed it would appear to have a connection to 'killer applet' written (or spoken) all over it.

Here's a roster of current Kleiner Perkins Java Fund companies for anyone interested.

On a related note, here's a nice Jini intro page with a link to the Jini Home page (and mail list) at the bottom.

I discovered THIS little item tonight. O'Reilly is reporting a dramatic 3x surge in Unix book sales.

And here is Sun gloating in it's timeliness.

Lastly, it appears perhaps that IBM is on the verge of bringing it's Lotus 'productivity' SmartSuite into OpenSource which would seem (along with Corel's recent direction with WP8) to have obvious implications for desktop Solaris, at least until higher bandwidth can provide something more server-centric (WebTop) for the masses.

Might you have your MOM running Solaris next year?
