Tenchusatsu,
let me put something of Your & my comments into proper perspective..

First of all I was aware that 450NX was developed by Corollary, that's why they were bought out by Intel. When I criticized Intel's so called "high-end" platform I merely wanted to point out that the so called "technical-excellence" of Intel is just NO EXISTANT in this segment. Or would You think that waiting half a year for a working 8way SMP on a current CPU design (XEON) is speed to market ??

Oh yes I do think that the 2MB XEON is overpriced. This is the current "sweet spot" of INTC. They are MILKING the market here. When You mention AMD to KAMIKAZE prices let me get something straight: this industry is now in transition from monopoly to oligopoly. INTC tried to defend itself by segmenting the market, dropping Prices fast in those segments where there was competition. The competition merely REACTED. In doing so INTC tried to keep AMD, NSM & others from becoming profitable - hence their above average price drops throuighout the last 30 months.

Just compare the current pace of cuts to the rate of price cuts when INTC had monopoly status. Don't You notice the difference ? So it isn't AMD kamikazing prices. With those deep price cuts INTC wanted to defend market share in those segments where there were alternative designs . In fact, they couldn't as fhe statistics for the last quarter clearly show.

With the K7 design, AMD will be able to compete at ALL FRONTS against the heavyweight INTC. This also means INTC can't play its old game any longer for there won't be any segment left that goes untapped by the X86 competition. I predict they will finally carve in on the price-erosion front, returning to a more normal pace. Reason: they are starting to hurt themselves with this going on.

Regarding CPQ & AMD, this is the first time EV-6 was used in another design. I would say this is a milestone. I didn't imply that INTC is going to stand still. But they have to find a NEW strategy. Just price cuts and cranking out crippled CPU designs like the old Celeron w/o 2nd level cache won'T excite buyers anymore.

best regards
CROSSY

BTW: let's see what will happen to AMD by January 99..
