Elmer,
in fact YOU are WRONG. This is Corollary design (the old thing that did the 8way SMP for the Pentium Pro a bit revamped for XEON) for companies like Northbridge, Compaq et al. This seems to be exactly the reason why Intel is having problerms with solving bugs by fitting this chipset and the XEON together. I know I'm right here because I'm reading this stuff (in MAgazines like ct of Germany and websites like Tom's or Anand's)...But apart from that - where'S the point. ?

To me it seems that Intellaheads are really frightened this time. They couldn't kill the competition so they fear for their monopoly profits. It's an easy game of competition types: You have to tell value based decision makers why they should buy a product which costs more, performs less and tries to lock the competition out of upgrade cycles (Slot-ONE).

Preference-building strategies "INTEL-inside" (e.g. ingrediant branding) work some time but as soon as those decision makers get more educated its effects vanish gradually. Don't forget we can benchmark (hard numberz!) the performance of a CPU . unlike pure feel-good factors like the design-quality of a fashionable sunglass-brand. And it's hard to fight (unfavourable) numbers which can stand every argument.

The educational process goes up segment by segment. First the gamers, then the organizations settling for new Client-PCs, next come notebooks and finally servers. AMD and other companies will be able to supply them viable alternatives. It's time for INTC to get real and prepare for reality. Monopoly is over and the NORM (oligipolistic markets) is finally here. I almost bank on them to get a grip..

best regards,
CROSSY
