"Why short the stock now that it's already lost half of it's value? "
If you think a stock is overvalued, it matters not were the price has been. Off the cuff, I can name APM at 30, IOM at 13 3/4, CCSI at 10, PRST at 50, CFON at 7 1/2, PNDA at 25, ENML at 14, SOLV at 11, ABTE at 10, TRBD at 8, CIEN at 46, and FIBR at 31, all great shorts at the prices noted, and all examples about 50% off their high.
"Shorts just need to short at the point of maximum exuberance. "
It would be nice if it were it that easy to pick the top. People that use the above for a shorting criteria get caught in squeezes.
Please note this is a general rule, and that I have no position in, or opinion of BT. But it really is better to short a stock that is off it's highs than to try to call the top, IMO.
How is that INKT short going? Were you ever able to borrow shares?
