Martin,

I am just as surprised as you are re: stock dividend. I am calling IR on Monday for confirmation. As a matter of fact I took a position on Wed., because of the earnings report and to capture---what I thought was then--- the modest ( vis a vis other small to large regionals ) cash dividend that I thought the Yahoo profile indicated( incidentally, I've been playing certain banks shortly before ex. d. dates.--I've noticed most have a bit of a runup during that window of time ).

When I did more reading re: company news, I freaked. I learn that the ex. d. already happened. Huh. I ask the Yahoo board what gives and that is when I learned that the 11/10/98 date is for a 10% cash dividend. If so, incredible but not unheard of.

A few years ago I bought BKCT, a small CT. bank, and I wake up one dayto find that my position increased by 5% because of a cash dividend that was, as I recall, unannounced.

BTW, I began a new thread today that casts a wider net for these opportunities. Hope you contribute when you ID them.
