Maurice!
"Raymond, you are missing the European feudal association of restrictive trade practice stopping QUALCOMM selling their product in Europe". Who are stopping QCOM from selling there products in
Europe.I remembered how much you bragged about the IS-95
overlay at Vodaphone. That was the end of GSM.Qualcomm is also
free to sell other products. For example they can sell WCDMA products for the 3:rd generation of systems. But they can't force
ETSI to specify something they don't want.ETSI is a standardorganization that has specified a lot of telecomstandards
that has benifitted the European consumers. In US there are telecom
standardorganizations specifying.SS7,T1,ISUP,ISDN to name a few.
There are only one standard of all of this protocols. In Europe they
have 100;s of not compatible protocols thats why they need ETSI
AND THATS WHY EUROPE WANTS A SINGLE MOBILE STANDARD.TO BE ABLE TO ROAM AROUND ALL OVER EUROPE USING A SINGLE PHONE.US has IS-41 as a common
standard beween TDMA and CDMA.Europe before GSM couldn't
roam at all.
ETSI:s goal is not to promote the european industry.Motorola had more IPR:s in GSM then any other company. For example the big
fight over which speechcoder to use was won by MOT.
When it comes to WCDMA NTT-Docomo has been the prime
developer of that protocol.
"despite the Microsoft and Intel attacks, tends to defend their people's private property rights." If Ericsson wins in court will you
condemn QCOM from infringing on Ericssons patents?.
"It's called competition. Of course L M Ericsson won't like THAT!"
So you call that competition if Ericsson pays 12% on every mobile to QCOM.Is it that margin that QCOM needs to stay in business on
the mobile side|?/R
