Over the next six months two companies, Replay Networks in Palo Alto and TiVo in Sunnyvale, Calif., will bring to market a brand-new consumer electronics device, the digital VCR. Made of little more than a few integrated circuits, a power supply, and a massive multi-gigabyte hard drive, the digital VCR will render traditional VCRs obsolete.
