I'll start.

I'm planning to open a brokerage account for each of my two young children. I'm aware of the issues of putting money in their names and I have an on-line broker picked out, so I'm all set except for one thing.

What to invest in?

They are so young now (both less than 2) that it will not be a learning experience yet, but I do plan to educate them regarding investing as early as possible. I know that one way to do this is to invest in stocks like Disney, Coca-Cola, Nike, etc.

I'm curious what other parents have done in this situation.

I see three options:

1) Invest in whatever I want to now and worry about the educational picks later.

2) Invest in stocks related to what they use now, Stride Rite, Gerber, Baby Gap, etc.

3) Invest in stocks I think they will be interested in when they are ready to learn this stuff, Nike, Coca-Cola, etc.

I'm leaning towards number 1.

I'd love to hear any other ideas or success stories.

Thanks
-jsc
