My friend and I had discussed DVD a long time ago...the potential, etc. Well, he just bought a DVD player this weekend....
He's pretty in touch with consumer electronic trends...avoided pitfalls like Sony's Minidisc, Betamax, laserdiscs, etc...and he's very price sensitive. There's no question in my mind that DVD is here to stay.

He found that the majority of players were still a bit too expensive...but found a few that were reasonably priced.
Still not in the range for mass consumption, but definitely priced for home-theater buffs. Movie rental places were offering rentals for $3 for a one-night view.

The features of the player are simply amazing.
His has a zoom and scroll feature for looking
at small detail in the picture....multiple speed fast forward/rewind...crisp resolution...excellent freeze frame....excellent sound....multiple dubbed languages, multiple language subtitles (some of these are more a feature of the DVD title)...trailers....etc.
DVD will definitely take off big-time. Can't wait until
recordable DVD :)
