BIS dismantled, employees sent to other ministries
The Belize Information Service, as promised in the 1998 PUP's manifesto, was officially dismantled on Thursday, Oct. 15.
To date, all members of staff except for a driver, have been re-deployed to other ministries as public relations officers.
Due to the shortage of space, the staff members of the former BIS will he using their old office, while fulfilling their newly appointed job descriptions.
Up until press time, it was not known what would be done with the BIS Chief Information Officer, Selwyn King. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Marion McNab, said that the governor general, in accordance with the advice of the prime minister and the leader of opposition will decide his fate.
Mr. King took over the Belize Information services in 1993. Before being appointed to the BIS, he was the first director of news, sports and current affairs at the BCB.
