I recommend the web page at the link below. It's not about investing. It purports to be a leaked internal Microsoft memo about how to deal with the Open Source movement. It is in some ways an extraordinary document if you have the patience to read it. Even skimming it is worthwhile.

The piece is very long, and most will not want to read it in toto. However, it's possible, as the poster says, that Microsoft will force its removal within a few days. The "editor" and annotator, Eric Raymond, is a programmer who has written several interesting white-paper-type documents about the philosophy of the open source movement. These are also linked-to from the above URL.

This Linux and other Free Software stuff is a genuine industry phenomenon, and IMHO a much greater threat to Microsoft than to Sun or others who build high-end hardware, which by its nature will always require software that is to some extent proprietary. The Open Software phenomenon does, however, have serious ramifications for the future of Java.

Anyway, FWIW for anyone interested in such matters.
