You flatter yourself. My wife has a PhD in engineering and is a good mom. Plenty of dreams going around in our household. Her mom had no degree. Yet, there were plenty of dreams there too. There are plenty of kids around who've had successful Moms and or Dads and lived to tell about it. When the career was at the cost of having an involved parent most kids are able to express some regret. In fact no matter what their circumstance most grown ups are able to look back and talk about how things could have been better. When somebody gets defensive about how they were "raised" I get suspicious.
