I use my VCR primarily for watching movie rentals. Can't remember the last time I recorded something.

According to one of the articles released over the weekend, this new chip is supposed to lead to the development of a recordable dvd
product for video.

If most people are just time shifting do you really need external media? Why not just put a hard disk in the box like these guys do
