AOL and Netscape probably do have different profiles when you consider according to AOL's survey that 70% of AOLers are using 14.4 or less modems!

As a long-time marketing person, I never understand media bundles that don't focus on a particular audience. It's always better to buy exactly the audience you are looking for instead of buying the "Price Club Family Size Pack". Of course, if you don't know who your audience is, the big bundle can make for an interesting if expensive test.

Re MSN, it's a very dependable service. I use it primarily for personal email. It's much faster than AOL and never a wait to get on. Plus I got one of the early beta deals, it's hard to beat $3/month. I gave up on AOL a long time ago and the only reason I see to go back would be to let my kids use it because of the guest account feature. But then, why would I torture them with access and log in delays either?

IMHO, AOL is in deep trouble in terms of sustained growth and even worse for profits. I've been involved with internet sites based on ad model, and it is a tough business at this point. If they can't show a profit on access, they won't make up for it with ads.
