Dear FoxGlove:
This morning at approximately 10:20 EST we stopped receiving a satellite signal from our datafeed provider, S&P Comstock. This was a satellite transmission problem that effected most of the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California. The problem was identified immediately by our alert system, and we were in constant telephone contact with Comstock until our datafeed was restored, at approximately 11:40 EST for real-time subscribers. The satellite problem resurfaced at about 1:34 EST. Once again, we alerted our datafeed provider, and the service was restored at about 1:50 EST. S&P Comstock is in the process of readjusting its satellite, and it is possible that we may experience further data interruptions through the end of the trading day.
Over the past few months, IQC Corporation has worked to minimize the frequency and duration of data interruptions by instituting an alert system, adding to our server farm for redundancy, and reprogramming our database server. For our next version of IQ Chart, we will be adding two more tools. First, under the "Help" menu, there will be a system message that will tell you if the system is working. If there is a data problem, you will be able to read about the cause in the system message. Second, we will be changing the intraday updating system to correlate with the clocks at IQC rather than from the local computer. This will enable us to more accurately and readily inform you of data interruptions should they occur.
Thank you, IQC Corporation
