Tip, Why are people afraid of choice in education? There is already choice. What we are afraid of is paying for it to subsidize a few wealthy individuals while the majority are stuck in sub-standard schools. I am a small d democrat, and I think you need diversity in the educational process. If somebody doesn't like diversity, they can foot the bill to go elsewhere.

The problem is, private education is just another name for racial, gender or economic prejudice. When you make it easy for the economically advantaged to opt out of the neighborhood, and dig deeper into that group with a public subsidy, you make it tougher to fix the problems that exist in local schools.

I think all schools should provide quality education. That cannot be done without spending money, without parental involvement and without community involvement. Isolating folks ain't the way to achieve that. Yes, it is easier on parents who would rather cop out and allow their children to be raised by others, but I say a pox on them.

Otherwise, I am sensible. -g-
