KJ,

I read the 3COM announcement with some interest.
I have dealings with all three companies. With
MTI, the relationship has been extensive.

o Legato basically sells software for backups.

o MTI is a distributor with an excellent reputation
regarding competent technical staff. I have
bought Legato software and 3COM networking gear
from MTI, for example.

In other words, the three companies are potential consumers
of FC switches, hubs, and drives. They buy that hardware
from other companies off-the-shelf.

These guys are not going to fool around. Non-existent
hardware or expensive cost per port will not fly.
On the other hand, 3COM can swap out vendors on a dime.

This is good news for Ancor assuming the switch
is performing well in the field. Let's hope MTI
has Ancor switches in the testing bays.

Veritas is a whole different kettle of fish. They
build filesystems which enhance workstation performance.
True SAN development depends on companies like this
to make the concept fly. The work is not glamorous,
but essential. If Veritas software works well with
Ancor switches then we cannot help but sell them
assuming the price point is right.
