They're slides. Or overhead projector slicks. Or pieces of paper with pretty pictures on them.

I'm not a marketing guy or an architecture guy, so I don't if there's an industry-wide technical jargon definition, but around here 'foils' are what they call PowerPoint slides that a speaker uses in making a presentation.

That's not to say they can't be very technical and exquisitely detailed. The point is that it's just a figment of someone's imagination, not a working piece of silicon.
