Does Walmart do much in software sales? Whenever I go there I don't see anyone buying computer software much less anything computer related, although they dedicate both sides of an aisle in the electronics department. I did notice "GT Interactive" printed on some of their shelf labels (like Quicken, etc.). Seems to me the software (and hardware) there goes out of date while still carrying the full price. It doesn't seem to be the place to shop for current cutting edge pricing.

I would think the Walmarts and Kmarts are unable to compete in this catagory due to the inability to respond to quickly changing trends. They must negotiate guaranteed sales on these products. I just don't see any other way this catagory could be profitable for the department stores. If this is the fact, it would appear to be bad news for the suppliers.

I don't see GT Interactive profiting from this news.
