It is very difficult to communicate a complicated concept in a few brief posts. A loss of children is a terrible thing to overcome.
The fathers stability came from his inner strength. His strength in this case was the exception, no argument there. However, whatever pulled this man to react this way wasn't necessarily religion or lack thereof. I can cite many more faithful, believing Christians who never get over a childs death and let it destroy them.

Where this man was helped by faith I know of a 13 year old girl who committed suicide because she was pregnant and couldn't face the Christian lectures of condemnation from her Christian parents and friends at sunday school. Her parents did not handle this near so well because they pictured their daughter in hell. The question I would liked to have asked but didn't dare was how they could be happy in heaven with their beloved child in hell. I for one do not accept that I would be happy.
