Just to learn to take time to consider what is being said, listening and thinking is a wonderful life skill. I often don't make the conscious effort that I ought. Most of the media relies on evoking visceral reactions.
Of course, those kinds of fallacies are the stock and trade of television. When our child started fixating on the images around 4 or 5 months -- we got rid of the TV. At the age of 3 he is well on his way learning to read. I credit the absence of TV in our home.

While on vacation we watched a little as we were resting from the days activities or while we were getting ready. As a result, Saturday I was searching the local discount stores for a particular doll. I had forgotten one of the other advantages of not having the "one-eyed" monster.
