Tom science is a process. They announced because it was the right
thing to do since it was important and I am not criticizing their
decision. I must tell you that I had lunch one of the
editors of scientific american and did tell him that I thouhgt
he had been spreading the pictures as proof and they proved nothing.
If you do not wnat to believe me that is fine but I work in
a related field. BTW I was a grad student at Cornell where
Sagan was a prof. The thing is that bad news does not sell as
well. It is nobodies fault really except for human nature.
You will find out though if you look around I just do not
have a reference for you.
