More on Bell Atlantic. Larry, Merrill Lynch recently placed their reports on-line at 'askmerrill.com'. The following paragraph caught my attention:

Capitalization of Software Expenses. Bell Atlantic recently indicated that it
will begin to capitalize its expenditures on internal software beginning in
1999, which we expect will result in a short-term positive impact to net
income. We believe this windfall should allow Bell Atlantic to accelerate its
spending on new initiatives such as the rollout of new data services, DSL,
long distance services and international wireless.
