echo + catheter = EcoCath
They make a variety of ultrasound products:
A vibrating catheter which allows extremely accurate placement under ultrasound, replacing the need for cumbersome radiographic determination of probe locations (useful, for instance, in cardiac cath and pacemaker implantation)
A micro ultrasound probe which can fit on the end of a catheter (useful for examining the interior of blood vessels at occlusions, for instance.
An ultrasound device for quantitatively measuring vascular blood flow .
I suspect this last capability, when applied to your third question, might not tell you why but certainly could tell you how fast.
Cheers!
