To All, Must reading for anyone interested in semi tools and memory stocks such as Micron: techweb.com. Carl Johnson, who occasionally posts on this thread, wrote a very perceptive piece about the challenges for 300 mm. chip production. Also, please note that another source I don't remember is saying 300mm. production
conversion will cost the industry $14 billion. It is nothing I haven't said here before, too many times, but it is nice to see someone else saying it and the piece is a one-stop shopping way of looking at the problem. It also agrees with me that 16 Mbit DRAM will be a short-lived cycle and that 64 Mbit will be up and running in record time. And, folks will see why I say that Micron needs a billion bucks just to stand still. They need much more to make progress in this rapidly changing industry dominated by big players.
