By the way, Cyrix still has a reputation, deserved or not, for chips that overheat and are not as reliable as Intel's.

You seem to the one man anti-Cyrix PR firm who is creating this "reputation". There was one revision of one of Cyrix designs sold years ago that had the "overheating problem", which was not any worse than original Penium 60/66.

BTW, I still have one of those chips (IBM branded) that still runs fine, even with an el-cheepo fan.

IBM lowballing it for the Christmas season with the shakiest reputation MPU name may say something about their own upcoming financial prospects.

I think the CPU with the shakiest reputation is the Celeron brand, and they still sell ok, if priced attractively. I think IBM will do very well with their low priced PCs. They will gain market share and customer loyalty, as even the entry level buyers will be able to afford a brand name PC.
