Not sure I understand you fully, but let me clarify what I was asking. Often there is something said that goes like this (very neat little theological package): Jesus took on our sins and God the Father hid His face from Jesus temporarily because He can't abide sin.

This bothers me a little. Jesus' self-scarifice was ordained by God. I can believe that Jesus' statement was a real and heartfelt expression, human, and that in it he identified with us, but the stuff about God the Father turning His face away -- seems contrived to fits man's limited understanding or to fit in a neat theological package.

Am I wrong to think that God the Father was with Jesus the whole time and approving of all that He did? Is there support for the view I've described above anywhere else in the Bible?

I remember one preacher I used to listen to saying that Jesus lived like God, but He died like a man.
