There is a lot of negative. But here's some positive. The Business Week and NY Times articles were complimentary of the NEXT move in theory, but wary about past implementation. And in spite of earlier posts, BW said that Jobs (not the middle mgr) initiated the contacts when the BE talks were leaked in the trade journals.

BW even mentioned use of the Intel machines to run the OS. Apple machines with Intel Inside ? Great for the consumer mkt comeback with multisystem advantage. At the same time the installed base would remain happy with Expotential / speed angle outpacing Intel. Along these lines Apple would junk Performa.

With any Intel based sales, Apple would certainly have to adopt a different name. Unfortunately, when people hear Mac they really hear "incompatible" and when they hear Apple they really hear "a dying company." These perceptions must be vetted out. IBM did a similar move during its troubled times with its Aptiva line, I think.

Sincerely,
Ben
