So much truth in that short post, its hard to deal with.

<<I think the situation should be addressed by the other Moslem nations and don't understand the inaction.>>

I am a Muslim and have little confidence that the other Muslim nations can or will do anything. They are all corrupt welfare states run by Dictators who rule with an iron fist. They don't represent the will of the people or the principles of Islam. Another problem is that the people have lived under that kind of system for so long that they don't have the culture that supports democratic decision making. So, when not under threat of the government, individuals do complain that they do not have an Islamic form of government or Islamic leadership, but if that were to change they really don't have the skills to make an Islamic system work. I have seen many efforts here in the USA to form Islamic institutions (school, community center, etc.) fail. Usually some strong willed leader from the community surfaces and gains power of the institution. Everybody follows along complaining the whole time that the leader is making stupid decisions, (something they could never do in the Middle East) until the effort fails.

It was easy for the other Islamic Governments to give a wink when the USA decided to step in with an over ambitious Saddam Hussein. None of them could make a move on their own.

Even though everyone privately liked the butt kicking Saddam received in the Gulf war they are now giving second thoughts to letting the US sort things out. The idea of innocent villagers suffering, totally violates rules of war in Islam. One of the main rules of war is that you can only retaliate defensively against someone sinning against you. You must stop when they stop and you cannot target an innocent creature as a strategy of war. That includes women, children, beasts, crops, etc.

The Middle East is having a revival of sorts. I went to pilgrimage in Mecca last year and from each nation, I heard the same thing. People were saying that when they were little children there were only a few weird old men going to the Mosques to pray. Now they fill up with young people at the regular prayer times. As an American and as a Muslim I have mixed emotions about what that means for our future.

If the Muslim countries apply the principles of Islam to the problems in the Middle East they could resolve the major issues in no time. They would also quickly become a World Power unlike anything we currently know. I suspect that a hidden agenda for the US is to keep them divided and squabbling, while remaining somewhat dependant on US intervention. I also suspect that is why Saddam still has a stomping ground.

<<from what I've seen the 600,000 dead children are a pittance compared to what Sadam killed before the war by draining the swamps.>>

I don't doubt it a bit. That doesn't minimize my feelings about the 600,000 though.

<<We need a trusted leader to put together a real truce.>>

Know any?
